Best Things To Do at Disney’s Castaway Cay
If you want to make a memorable vacation, I highly recommend heading on a Disney Caribbean cruise and making a stop at Castaway Cay. When you get off the cruise ship and onto the island, you will find that it’s 1000 acres of pure Disney heaven! When you visit, be sure to go hungry and in the mood to have a blast! Let’s dig a little deeper into the Top Things to do at Castaway Cay so you can start preparing for your vacation.
Hit the Beach
On your stop, you will find that there are three different beaches at Castaway Cay. So, everyone can soak up the sun, listen to the breeze, and watch the beautiful water from a sandy beach.
Castaway Family Beach
As you can imagine, the Castaway Family Beach is for the whole family to hang out at. It has lots of bright colors, hammocks, lounge chairs, and more. I do need to warn you, if you are planning to hang out at this beach, you will need to go early to ensure you snag your spot. It’s popular, so naturally, it fills up quickly.
You aren’t going to want to miss the Pelican Plunge! You can swim to it from the shore. It floats on the water, and you will find two fantastic waterslides and lots of other water features.
Sometimes you just need a place for a teen to be a teen, and that’s exactly what you will find at the sports beach. It’s a blast for teens that gives them a little bit of downtime to do what they enjoy. Playing volleyball, soccer, or tetherball is a must while visiting. Playing in the beautiful water or sitting on the sandy beach is also entertaining for most teens.
You are going to appreciate this island so much! It’s intended for only people who are at least 18 years old. It’s a relaxing stop that gives you a chance to kick back and unwind on your trip. You will find lots of yummy tropical drinks to sip on while you are visiting too. By the time you visit Serenity Bay, I’m sure you will welcome some quiet time and a cold cocktail.
Join in the 5K or Rent a Bike
You may not think about exercising when you are on vacation, but it’s so much more than that when visiting Castaway Cay.
Castaway Cay 5K
When you sign up, you can run or walk the 3.1-mile race. To sign up, you simply need to visit the Guest Service, and they will help you with everything you need to know. The race does start very early in the morning, so get a good night’s sleep, so you are prepared.
You will receive a medal once you complete the 5K. While it’s not timed and isn’t competitive, it’s a great memento to have. There are also photo opportunities, as well.
Renting a bike is a wonderful way to take in all the stunning views on the island. Not only do you get in some exercise, but it’s an adventure you won’t want to miss. There are two nature trails to take, or you can check out the observation tower to take in all the sights. Just make sure to bring proper shoes, so you don’t hurt your feet bike riding.
Heading on some wild and unique excursions is a blast. You can get different packages, and they include kayaking, hiking, fishing, parasailing, or you can even do the Stingray Adventure. Just be prepared to have the best day ever.
What’s a vacation without a little bit of shopping? You can pick up some fantastic souvenirs to bring home to friends or keep them all for yourself. There are several places to visit and you will be amazed at what you see. She Sells Sea Shells isn’t just a tongue twister it’s a great place to stop and pick up some Disney themed gifts! Or check out the handmade items at Cultural Illusions. Another thing that is extra special to do is head over to the Post Office and send yourself a postcard.
Food & Dining
Cookie’s BBQ is sure to leave you feeling content and satisfied. They have everything from hamburgers and bratwurst all the way to something fancier like mango mint soup. I promise you won’t leave hungry! The food is part of your Disney cruise, so you don’t have to worry about paying for the food. The only exception is alcoholic beverages. You can even order ahead food if you need a special diet too—one more thing to love about Disney trips.
We all know and love the Disney characters, so it makes sense that they would be included in this lovely get-away. Many of the characters will simply show up out of the blue! So, keep your eyes peeled for Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Olaf, Jack Sparrow, Stitch, and more. The most common places that the characters visit are the Castaway Cay Post Office, Mount Rustmore, Cookies BBQ, Summertime Freeze Drink stand, and when you arrive back to the ship. You can either bring a camera with you, or there are typically photographers around the character meetings. The best part is that the wait times aren’t usually too terrible.
If you want to enjoy some adult time without the kiddos, feel free to drop them off at the Scuttle Cove. They will keep the kids entertained while you enjoy some quiet time or sightseeing. They can play in the sand, enjoy some water games, or even take part in a scavenger hunt. This is the perfect spot for your kiddos as long as they are at least three years old.
As you can see from these Top Things to do at Castaway Cay, you are sure to find pleasure in this visit. There are many things to keep the entire family busy, but you can also enjoy time relaxing as well.
