Supplies You’ll Need:

  • Three Paper Plates
  • Black and Red Paint
  • Red, Black, Yellow, and White Construction Paper
  • Cotton Balls
  • Scissors
  • Glue

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1Prepare the Plates

Cut the centers out of two paper plates. These will be used later for Mickey’s ears.

On the third paper plate, paint the bottom half red and the top half black. This plate will form the main part of Mickey’s face and Santa outfit. The paint job doesn’t have to be perfect where the two colors meet. The belt will cover this section.

Paint the two plate centers black as well. These will be Mickey’s ears. Allow all painted items to dry completely before proceeding.

Step 2Attach Mickey’s Ears

Once the paint is dry, glue the two smaller black circles (the centers of the paper plates you cut earlier) to the back of the main plate, positioning them on the black half. These will serve as Mickey’s ears. Allow the glue to dry before moving on to the next step.

Step 3Create Santa’s Outfit and Hat

  • Cut out the following shapes from the construction paper:
    • One long black rectangle (for Mickey’s belt)
    • One yellow square that fits over the black rectangle (for the belt buckle)
    • One red hat shape (small enough to fit between Mickey’s ears)
    • One long white rectangle (the length of the bottom of the hat)
    • One small white circle (for the tip of the hat)
  • Glue the black rectangle horizontally across the plate, over the divide between the red and black paint.
  • Glue the yellow square to the center of the black rectangle to create the belt buckle.
  • Glue the white rectangle to the front of the plate, between Mickey’s ears. This will be the base for the hat.
  • Attach the red hat to the white rectangle, then glue the small white circle to the point of the hat. You can glue the hat directly to the ears for extra stability.

Step 4Add the Finishing Touches

Glue cotton balls to the white parts of the hat, creating a fluffy brim and pom-pom effect.

Paper Plate Mickey Mouse Santa Crafting Tips

  1. Choose Quality Supplies: Using sturdy paper plates and good-quality paint will help ensure that your craft holds up well, especially if you plan to use it as a holiday decoration.
  2. Protect Your Workspace: Lay down newspaper or a disposable tablecloth to protect your table from paint and glue. This makes cleanup easier and prevents any accidental messes.
  3. Pre-Cut Shapes for Younger Kids: If you’re crafting with young children, consider pre-cutting the construction paper shapes. This allows them to focus on the fun parts of painting and gluing without the frustration of using scissors.
  4. Use a Glue Stick for Paper: While liquid glue works well for attaching cotton balls and other heavier items, a glue stick can be easier for kids to handle when gluing paper pieces together.
  5. Allow Enough Drying Time: Ensure each layer of paint and glue is thoroughly dry before moving on to the next step. Drying time is a great time to play a Disney Christmas movie, Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas would be a great choice!
  6. Customize Your Craft: Feel free to add extra decorations like glitter, sequins, or even googly eyes to give your Santa Mickey Mouse craft a unique and personalized touch.
  7. Display with Your Child’s Artwork: Once the Mickey Santa craft is complete, display it prominently as part of your holiday décor. You can hang it on the wall, place it on a mantle, or even use it as a gift for family members.

This Paper Plate Santa Mickey Mouse Craft is a delightful and engaging activity for the holiday season. It brings together the magic of Disney and the festive spirit of Christmas, making it a perfect project for families to enjoy together.
