Best 90s Disney Movies

I have compiled the Best 90s Disney Movies, and you are going to want to see them! There is something amazing about the era of movies in the 90s that really can be beaten. They will give you lots of heartwarming feelings, a few tears, and lots of smiles.

Best 90s Disney Movies

If you grew up in the 90s, you already know what a fun time it was. Blockbuster video stores, see-through phones, and plaid clothes are just part of the appeal. These throwback movies are just as awesome now as they were when they were made. Disney’s Renaissance period was from 1989  to 1999.

While Disney made a couple of great movies in the 1980s, Disney returned to making critically acclaimed masterpieces again in the 1990s. We get classic princess stories and stories of heroic deeds. These are the stories that made Disney boom in the beginning. There are a few defining similarities in these movies that I believe make the movies ones to watch again and again.

  • Broadway-style musical numbers
  • Inclusion of celebrity voice talent
  • Beautiful animation

I believe Disney came back to this level of animation in 2009 with The Princess and the Frog and Disney’s Encanto just seals the deal. Many call this time Disney’s revival and it is currently Disney’s most profitable era in history.

Disney dominated the movie industry during the 1990s, so it’s time to take a deeper look at these nostalgic films that told the stories we love to watch on repeat and now can with Disney+.

Beauty and the Beast

This is a “tale as old as time,” and trust me when I say it never gets old! Could the unlikely duo Belle and Beast actually fall in love? The enchanted castle is filled with catchy tunes, lots of giggles, and of course…love!

This movie made its debut in 1991, and it’s been enchanting viewers ever since. Grab the kids, some popcorn, and snuggle with your favorite blanket for this one.

Hocus Pocus

The 90s wouldn’t have been the same without Hocus Pocus! It was released in 1993 and has become a staple in most households during the Halloween season. The Sanderson Sisters stir up a lot of trouble in Salem.

Don’t worry, even though it centers around Hallows’ Eve; it’s not scary. Adults and kids will love the film. Just a warning, the black candle has to be lit by a virgin, so the kids may be asking questions by the end of it.

Nightmare Before Christmas

Another spooky film that came out in 1993. Jack Skellington is the star of the show and even kidnaps the beloved Santa Claus. Can he spread the Christmas spirit? Check out this classic tale to find out. Keep in mind some younger viewers may get scared, so take that into consideration.

The Lion King

1994 was the perfect time to release The Lion King. The soundtrack was awesome, the film was great, and fans everywhere adored it. After you dry your eyes from the beginning scenes, you are sure to laugh and sing along to the catchy tuns. Tune in to find out if Simba can defeat Mufasa and bring peace back to the pride and his home.

The Santa Clause

Another fantastic feel-good film was released in 1994. Just in time for the holidays! Get the family together and watch as Scott Calvin takes on the role of Santa. It’s a tricky job, and hiding his growing belly, and white beard is problematic. You’ll surely have some laughs along the way!

Toy Story

Tim Allen was pretty busy in the 90s! He is the voice of Buzz Lightyear n this 1995 movie. Buzz and Woody have their differences, but can they work it out? Find out what true friendship means and what toys really do when you aren’t in the room.

While there are sequels that have been made, the first Toy Story is where it all started. By the end of the movie, you may even shed a tear, so you can’t say I didn’t warn you.

Pocahontas

The story of Pocahontas comes to life in this 1995 Disney movie. You will see a little bit of everything from romance to songs you can’t help but sing with. Find out if Pocahantas and her love, Captain John Smith, can overcome obstacles and end up together.

A Goofy Movie

Another animated film released in 1995, A Goofy Movie, is for sure going to have you laughing out loud. I mean, is it possible to watch Goofy and not get a good laugh? Goofy and his son, Max, go on a road trip that is sure to keep you entertained. This is a beautiful story between a loving father and a growing young son trying to figure out his individuality from his father.

If you love this movie check out the old cartoon Goof Troop on Disney+. It is filled with more adventures of Max & Goofy!

The Hunchback of Notre Dame

Released in 1996, The Hunchback of Notre Dame may just be one of the best movies ever made. While it doesn’t get as much attention as other Disney films, it really should! Fall in love with Quasimodo and his kind heart and sing to the music.

Hercules

In 1997, the movie Hercules came out, and it was a hit! Go on a journey with Hercules to find out if he can become a real hero. There will be battles, self-sacrifice, and even some mushy love! Oh, and you will love the music along the way too.

Aladdin

A beautiful magic carpet ride through the city of Agrabah. Tag along for a journey full of Genies, Royalty, and fun. This truly heartwarming film was released in 1992 and has been a fan favorite ever since.

The Rescuers Down Under

The animated film, The Rescuers Down Under, was released in 1990. Part of the Disney Renaissance era, this movie has become an instant classic. You can’t help but fall in love with the characters and root for the hero named Cody!

Mulan

Mulan is a young woman who doesn’t have any fear of fighting in the army. She disguises herself as a boy and goes on to become a hero! Follow Mulan and all the fun music in this awesome 1998 movie.

I hope you have a blast watching these nostalgic 90s Disney Movies!
