Disney’s Aristocats Movie Trivia and Fun Facts

My husband and I are still watching all the Disney animated classics in order. It is really neat to notice the progression of technology and how each movie portrays the decade it was made in even if the story takes place in a different time. We are up to the Aristocats. It was not my husband’s favorite movie, but it is one I like. I had only seen bits and pieces before this and hadn’t really watched it all. Here is my favorite Aristocats Movie Trivia!

What is Disney’s Aristocrats About?

Aristocats is a charming Disney animated film that follows the adventure of Duchess and her three kittens as they navigate the streets of Paris after being left an inheritance. With the help of a smooth-talking alley cat named Thomas O’Malley, they encounter various mishaps and musical moments. It’s a heartwarming tale of family, friendship, and feline fun set against the backdrop of the City of Lights.

Aristocats Movie Trivia

Walt Disney’s Last Approved Film. This is the last animated feature to be approved by Walt Disney and the studio’s first animated feature to be completed after his death.

Aristocats is Based on a True Story. The Aristocats was inspired by the true story of a Parisian family of cats, circa 1910, that inherited a fabulous fortune.

Edgar Gave them Too Many Sleeping Pills. The number of sleeping pills Edgar put in the milk for the cats would likely have killed them in real life.

The Sequel was Canceled. Originally there was meant to be a direct-to-video sequel titled Aristocats II. It was intended for a 2007 release, but production was canceled back in 2006 after John Lasseter became CEO of both Disney and Pixar. John Lasseter was very much against sequels unless there was an awesome story to continue with.

Dopey the Cat? Toulouse was originally named “Dopey”. This was seen on one of the early storyboards until his name was changed. Toulouse is named after Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (A French Artist) and the French city of Toulouse. Toulouse, located in southwestern France, is known for its rich history, vibrant culture, and distinctive pink-hued architecture, earning it the nickname “La Ville Rose” (The Pink City).

Waterloo the Cat. There was supposed to be a fourth kitten named Waterloo.

The Sherman Brothers Last Song. Robert and Richard Sherman wrote the title song for the film during the last year of their eight-year tenure working for Walt Disney Productions.

Aristocrats was a Success! Aristocats is considered a box office success because of the profit made.  Overall, The Aristocats made over $55 million on a budget of $4 million.

A Live-Action Aristocats is Coming Soon. Its release date is currently unknown. However, in January 2022, development for the remake has started. Though I am not happy about this (can we get something original) I do want to see a movie with adorable kittens!

Disney’s Aristocats is available on Disney+.
