Susie The Little Blue Coupe is one of my favorite Disney Shorts. This little animated short tells the life story of Susie, a little blue coupe. You go through Susie’s life all the way from the showroom floor to when begins to break down. This short makes me look at cars in a whole different light. Disney/Pixar Cars portray a lot of the emotions cars could feel, but the story concentrates on a famous race car and a dead Route 66. Susie the Little Blue Coupe focuses on one car and her attachment to her owner.

If the narrator’s voice sounds familiar, you are hearing the person who voiced Winnie the Pooh! Back in the early days of Disney animation, they recycled voice actors a lot more often. This short was released in 1952. Even though it is short, you quickly become a cheerleader for little Susie! The story reminds me of Herbie.
This short was actually the stylistic inspiration for the Cars movie in the way the car has human features. Animation has really advanced with CGI, but the old Disney animators did an excellent job with Susie’s features and having her show emotion. Knowing that old Disney animation inspired the new Disney hits makes me appreciate the older movies even more!

According to Wikipedia, a book entitled “The Auto Biography of Susie the Little Blue Coupe” was on a shelf in Mickey’s garage at his house at Mickey’s Toontown Fair in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. I just love how Disney intertwines even the smallest part of Disney history into all that it does. I hope that continues as Disney progresses.
