Trattoria al Forno Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast Review

The Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast at Trattoria al Forno is one of my favorite character breakfasts anywhere in the Walt Disney World Resort. The Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast is a character meal that can be enjoyed by both little and big princesses and princes.

Trattoria al Forno Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast

Located at the Disney’s Boardwalk Resort this Italian themed restaurant has both character and great food. This is really the perfect spot for a late breakfast or brunch within walking distance of the International Gateway at Epcot.

Trattoria al Forno Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast Menu

Breakfast is a Prix fixed menu that starts with a fun Iron Skillet full of pastries themed for The Little Mermaid or Tangled. My favorites are the sun shaped powder sugar coated pastry and the clam shell fruit filled pastry, but all of the choices were delicious. Special note, your server will bring you one skillet full of pastries but you can ask for more and even ask for a to-go box before you leave to take your leftovers with you.

Breakfast Starters

Every guest is given a bowl of fruit and your choice of coffee, tea, milk or juices. There is a French Press coffee that costs an additional amount but unless you are really particular about your coffee the brew included with your meal is a good option.

Additionally there are special fruit drinks that come with a plastic cup, straw and light up Pascal as well as a selection of alcoholic drinks for adults.  I ordered both coffee and tea, as well as milk for my coffee instead of cream, and was brought everything I asked for at no additional charge.

Bon Voyage Breakfast Main Courses

Your main courses are a delightful selection of traditional breakfast offerings with an Italian flare. The Sunday Gravy offered with many of the dishes is a marinara style tomato sauce that adds an additional flavor, this can be served on the side if you’re not sure about ordering it.

Royale Breakfast

My favorite item on the menu is the “Royale Breakfast”, which is an oak-grilled steak, cheesy egg-torte with Fonduta and roasted potatoes with onion. Since I’m allergic to onion I ordered the potatoes without the crispy onion. Every time I’ve ordered this item I’ve not been disappointed. The steak was cooked perfectly to my request and was a melt in your mouth cut, the eggs in the sauce with a piece of asparagus and the potatoes rounded out the dish for a flavorful start to the day. This is a protein loaded meal that will hold you over until dinner time leaving you free to skip lunch and enjoy the delicious snacks of Disney.

King Triton’s Shipwreck al Forno

A fun choice to order that breaks away from your traditional breakfast line up is “King Triton’s Shipwreck al Forno”. This is a breakfast calzone filled with Eggs, Soppressata, Bacon, Sausage, Cheese and served with Sunday Gravy. Your server brings it out with a giant Trident fork, take your photo quickly though as they do not leave these at the table. it’s a breakfast take on the traditional cheesy dish served at Italian restaurants and pizzerias.

Tower of Pancakes

If you’re more into sweets than a savory breakfast try the “Tower of Pancakes”. These are the fluffiest fluffy buttermilk pancakes I have ever seen and are served with a seasonal fruit compote and your choice of bacon or sausage. On my visit it was a mixed berry compote and a great complement to the fluffy pancakes. Four pancakes are served with two sausage links or bacon and are beautifully presented with the Rapunzel sun on top in powdered sugar. For those who prefer syrup to fruit just let your server know when you order and they will make the accommodation.

Tangled Eggs

The Tangled Eggs is a fresh mozzarella, tomato-basil open-faced omelet, with Sunday Gravy, and Breakfast Potatoes served with Bacon or Sausage.

Sunday Gravy which is mentioned in several of the menu items is not gravy like you are used to. It is an Italian based tomato sauce. It is very tasty and gives a nice flavor to any dish that has it. The eggs were cooked well. The potatoes hidden under the eggs were very tasty as well.

Pascal’s Palette

This menu option is a HUGE platter of of fresh fruit. Along with the fruit you also get Greek yogurt with honey and house-made granola.

Children’s Menu at the Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast

There are plenty of other offerings and a special menu for the little adventurers as well. Children have the choice of two sides to go along with their main course. The side offerings include the following options:

  • Mixed Fresh Fruit
  • Sliced Apples
  • Bacon
  • Sausage
  • Red Bliss Potatoes
  • Scrambled Eggs

Flounder’s Flapjacks

Flounder’s Flapjacks is similar to the Tower of Pancakes but a smaller portion.

As always at Disney if you or someone in your party has food allergies they have separate menus and will do all that they can to make accommodations.

Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast Characters

Of course the best part of any character breakfast at Disney is the characters and this is one of my favorites. The four adventurers visiting your table are Ariel and Prince Eric as well as  Flynn Ryder and Rapunzel.

Each character comes out on their own to great fanfare played throughout the restaurant. Prince Eric will come out first and when the announcement is made that Ariel is coming out he goes to the door to meet her and escort her through the restaurant.

Flynn Ryder and Rapunzel do the same thing then Rapunzel will then lead the little adventurers on a dance through the restaurant with Flynn.

Making the Most of Character Interactions

The character interactions can be as simple as a hello, a picture and an autograph, but they can be very fun for anyone who wants to interact by making references to fun things in the movies.

Bring a stuffed Pascal and Flynn Ryder will call him the frog and tell stories, while Rapunzel may let you know she’s been playing hide and seek with him all morning.

Prince Eric has asked us not to show Ariel the “dinglehoppers” as well as danced with little princesses dressed as Ariel. Ariel can be quite fun if you show her Flounder or Sebastian or ask her if she needs to borrow your “dinglehopper”.

They let the guests make the most of the interactions and are always up for a photo as well as signing any autograph books.

The characters come in and out but you will get to meet and interact with all four. Additionally they have dancing and parades around the restaurant for all of the little adventurers.

Trattoria al Forno Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast Tips

Tips for a great experience:

  • Make a Reservation in advance, this is a popular character breakfast
  • Bring your autograph books and cameras
  • If your little adventurers have Princess or Prince outfits this is a fun place to wear them
  • Try doing a Disneybound as one of the characters from Tangled or The Little Mermaid to enhance your experience
  • If you’re a Passholder take advantage of the 10% discount when dining here.
  • If you are on the Disney dining plan, take advantage of the alcoholic drinks, they are so good!

The food the atmosphere and the characters all add up to why this is one of my favorite breakfast character dining experiences at Walt Disney World. Bon Voyage!
