‘Ohana’s Dinner Review | Disney’s Polynesian Resort

Got another Disney World Bucket List item marked off! Last week I dined at ‘Ohanas for dinner. I even got a table with a great view of the castle. I was in heaven. Let me tell you about my dinner, the good and the bad. My ‘Ohana’s dinner review will hopefully prompt you to grab your phone and schedule your ADR for this fun Disney dining experience!

Last week my husband and I ended up at Disney, don’t know how that happens, lol! We decided the night before to go, we even grabbed a room nearby. Since the Magic Kingdom was having Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, we decided that we would do a sit-down dinner after the park closes at 7pm for non-party goers. We were so lucky to grab a 8:45 pm ADR for ‘Ohanas! It never hurts to keep looking the MDE for your favorite restaurant reservation.

Since we had a little time before park closing and our dinner reservation we did some monorail resort hopping.

‘Ohana’s Dinner Review

You check into ‘Ohanas across next to Moana’s Gift Shop (newly renamed) across the way from where O’hanas actually is. They hand you a buzzer and then there is a nice comfy spot to wait until your table is ready. If you are thirsty while you wait there is a lounge nearby to order a drink.

‘Ohana’s is served family style and there are no choices. You can ask for dietary changes, the chefs at Disney are very good regarding allergies and diets.

Once  your buzzer goes off your “cousin” meets you at the entrance and seats you. Your first taste of ‘Ohanas is their flavorful Friendship bread.  It is a sweet bread with coconut and pineapple flavors. I am picky when it comes to fruit and was to see it is flavored with coconut and pineapple and did not contain chunks of it. The flavors came off subtle and combined perfectly. Very soft bread and I thought it was so good!

Next, they bring out the salad. At first glance, it looks like your basic salad but it is dressed with a delicious P.O.G. Juice vinegarette. (Related: P.O.G. Juice Mimosa Recipe) It is sweet, but I wouldn’t say it was too sweet.

Next, we were presented with 2 sauces for dipping the grilled meats in. One was peanut and the other was sweet-n-sour. I liked both but had somewhat of an allergic reaction to the peanut sauce. The peanut sauce had a tiny bit of heat to it.

The appetizers came next and were my favorite part of the meal.  The pork dumplings tossed in a garlic ginger sauce were awesome. I think I ate more of those than anything else. The honey coriander chicken wings were good too. I liked how they gave us warm towels to wipe our hands with, instead of cold wet naps.

On this platter to share was also stir-fried vegetables and noodles tossed in a teriyaki sauce. The noodles seemed just like ramen noodles and weren’t anything that special.

The next part of the meal was the grilled meats. I liked the chicken it has a great flavor. The steak was a bit heavy and tough to chew. The steak did have a great flavor, though. My husband liked the shrimp but didn’t rave about it.

Remember that yummy friendship bread? Well, it becomes a decadent Bread Pudding a la mode at dessert time. It is topped with caramel sauce and bananas.

Family Fun at ‘Ohanas

The dinner at ‘Ohanas does not have characters. It is still a fun place to dine. When I had dinner, someone was playing the ukelele and singing. Halfway through the dinner, they had coconut races for kids and adults alike. If you didn’t have a chance to grab a lei before dinner, someone comes around and puts one on you.

You get a great view of the castle from most of the tables and you also get a wonderful view of the meats getting cooked over an open flame. The grill area is the centerpiece of the restaurant.

The servers are wonderful, well, most are. I had server envy during my dinner. The tables next to us had an amazing server that visited their table often and conversed with them. Our server barely paid us any attention.
