DIY Mickey Mouse Rope Drink Coasters

As a Disney superfan, my house is filled with touches of Mickey Mouse all over the place. My porch and outdoor spaces are no exception. These beautiful, coastal-colored DIY Mickey Mouse Rope Coasters are made from Dollar Tree materials and are an easy craft that shows off my Florida and Disney lifestyle.

Dollar Tree Mickey Mouse Coasters

Other than the fact that these coasters are very easy to make, they work really well! They are super absorbent and effectively keep your surface free from water rings.

If you need a gift for a new homeowner that loves Mickey Mouse, these DIY coasters are a perfect gift!

Supplies:

  • Dollar Tree Nautical Rope (grab one package if you are going to make 2 and grab two packages if you want to make 4)
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Hot Glue
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Dollar Tree Bakers Twine (check the crafter’s corner section, that’s where I found mine)

How to Make Mickey Mouse Coasters

To make the large sections of the coaster you will need to cut 2 (two-foot lengths) of the nautical rope and 4 ( 8 inch lengths, for the ears)

Next cut 6 inch sections of the bakers twine (I cut about 16 of each color)

Start by wrapping the twine around the nautical rope, it will end up being about ½ inch long (at least mine was). Then add glue to the side of the nautical rope and curl it around.

Keep applying lines of glue and wrapping the rope around itself, wrap the sections of the twine sporadically around the coaster. Once you have created the main coaster, complete the same process for the ears, and then using hot glue, attach the ears to the main coaster.

How to Care for DIY Rope Drink Coasters

I would only hand wash, spot wash these. Please do not use these as hot pads. The hot glue would get softened and create a mess. Using these for a coffee mug are fine but trying to put a hot pot on it is a different story. Do not put too hot item on the mat, the coaster is made of cotton, cotton can burn.
