Disney’s Purple Wall Inspired Art

In recent years Instagram walls have gotten really popular at Walt Disney World. The first of these famous walls was the Purple Wall. My DIY Disney project today is Disney’s Purple Wall Inspired Art, a great art project for both adults and kids alike.

What is Disney’s Purple Wall?

Magic Kingdom’s Purple Wall at the beginning was just purple. It is located next to Tomorrowland Terrace. The wall is perfect because of the way the sunlight hits the wall, it provides the perfect lighting for your photo. Once Disney discovered the wall’s popularity they gave the part of the plain purple wall an artistic upgrade. Using different shades of purple Disney created a shape collage wall. For a while, Disney even had a purple drink because of the wall craze. The drink wasn’t the greatest though and didn’t last long. The Purple Wall is still popular though!

How to Paint Your Own Disney’s Purple Wall Inspired Art

This fun Disney-inspired painting project is perfect for personalization. I chose to do my painting in purples and pinks similar to the Purple wall. My painting buddy chose to do hers in the colors of the sunset. The idea is to just pick one color palette and go with it. If you have real little ones, this is a great project to teach coloring mixing with!

Materials You Will Need:

  • Canvas or Cardstock paper
  • Paint – We used crafter’s acrylic paint.
  • Washi or Painters tape
  • Paint Brushes

Before you get started get all your supplies ready. Have a cup of clear water and some paper towels handy.

Step 1:

Lay the tape on the canvas or paper. My Washi tape did not stick very well to the canvas so we added a little bit of glue. Make some spaces big, some small. That is what Disney did so I did the same.

*Tip – Make the tape strips longer/wider than the canvas or paper so you don’t have pieces randomly ending in the middle of the painting.

Step 2:

Pick out your colors and start painting. When you want to switch colors wash out the brush in the water cup and then rub the brush on the paper towel until it “paints” clear. Since you are doing similar colors, it does not have to be perfectly clear.

Step 3:

Once the paint has dried, pull up the tape.
