Disney DIY Autographed Plate

For my birthday, I dined at Akershus. I wanted a special way to remember the experience so I decided to make a Disney DIY Autographed Plate. It was really simple and it is a great personalized addition to my Disney Plate Collection!

Disney DIY Autographed Plate

Materials Needed:

  • White Ceramic Plate (Got mine from the Dollar Tree)
  • Paint Pens that paint on ceramic
  • Castle Template (I free-handed mine, but looked at one as a guide)
  • Paper
  • Pencil
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Tape

How to Paint the Ceramic Plate

Prepare the Plate. Wash the plate and then wipe it down with rubbing alcohol. Try not to touch the areas you are painting once wiped down with alcohol.

Prepare the Template. Print the template I have provided or find a picture online that you would like to recreate. If you want the castle to go in the same direction as shown, you will need to transverse the image before printing. With a pencil, very darkly trace the castle template.

Transfer the Template to the Plate. Place the image face down on your plate. Scribble with a little hardness over the outline you traced. This will make the outline show up ever so lightly on the plate.  I ended up with a light guide that helped me.

Paint the Plate. Paint your design onto the plate using paint pens.

Cure and Bake. Let it dry/set for 3 days to cure the paint. After 3 days, it is time to bake the design on. Place the plate in the cold oven, and then heat the oven to 350 degrees. Bake for 30 minutes. Add the preheating time onto the bake time. Allow the plate to cool completely before removing from the oven. If you choose not to bake your plate, the paint will cure within 21 days of air drying.

Care: Hand wash only and do not soak. Handle with care as the design could scratch.

How to Collect Character Autographs for the Plate

For the autographing we used regular Sharpies, you could also use the paint pens or oil based sharpies. I heard oil based sharpies are best.  We baked the design again after getting the signatures. Since our plates are for display only, I am only going to dust plates. I am putting my plate in my curio cabinet.

My sister-in-law did a pretty cool free-hand Mickey head on her plate, so be creative and personalize the  Disney DIY Autographed Plate to your taste!

Thank You for Spreading the Pixie Dust!

What an awesome idea. The girls are all about the Disney Princesses. I want to make them an autographed plate.

Cool idea! My granddaughter would love to have an "autographed" plate. This would probably help her sit down and eat more.
