If you are looking for a place at Disney Springs that serves up the flavors of home cooked food, Chef Art’s Homecoming is that place you want to secure a dining reservation for. Amazing fried chicken, big portions, and friendly service are highlights of this homey table service.
I had the privilege of dining at Homecoming on the reopening day and had the chance to meet Chef Art himself. Meeting celebrity chefs is not new for me, I have met several through my blogging career and I have to say that Chef Art is one of the most down to Earth chefs around. His heart lies in his food and the feelings that come from enjoying delicious food with your friends and family.
Chef Art came out and gave an opening welcome and he had tears in his eyes. Afterwards, he came to each table. I was dining with two friends (agents of Favorite Grampy Travels) and their kids, one of which is a very talented artist. Chef Art asked if he could have her awesome drawing of a dragon after she signed it. His genuineness shined though!
Before we talk about the fun decor and amazing food, I want to talk about my observations regarding Covid-19 cleaning measures and procedures. I have been out to a few different places at Disney Springs since the reopening and I have to say I so pleased with the cleaning measures at Chef Art’s Homecoming.
All Cast Members were masked, sanitizer at the door, and when we left I saw them not only clean our table but also all parts of our chairs. As for the menu, there is a card on the table where you use the QR code to pull up the menu on your phone.
Down at the Farm at Homecoming
The decor at Chef Art’s Homecoming is very farmhouse and homey. I also love that the restaurant includes pictures of the local farmers that actually supply the food. Chef Art is proud of the local farms that provide the food that the restaurant cooks.
Tables were spaced at least 6 feet apart and even though they were full, the place still had empty tables. Inside there are views of the bustling open kitchen or get a spot on the cozy, screened-in porch overlooking the springs.
How is the Food at Chef Art’s Homecoming?
If you are a fan of fried chicken and tasty, simple food then Chef Art’s is the place to go. Nothing fancy or ingredients you can’t pronounce. I am a pretty picky person and there was very little on the menu that I would not have had ordered.
Since Homecoming is known for its fried chicken that is what they wanted to try. I ordered mashed potatoes as my side and added cheese and bacon to them. The meal also comes with a hearty fresh made biscuit. The fried chicken IS amazing! It is perfectly spiced, not spicy but very flavorful. When you order the meal you receive 3 big pieces of chicken, I could only finish one piece and a bite of the leg. The potatoes were yummy and the biscuit was hearty but most of it came home with me.
Another tasty dish the Country Fried Steak. The steak is perfectly seasoned and battered then fried, and topped with sawmill gravy served with creamy mashed potatoes and French green beans sautéed with caramelized onions. This is actually a go-to when I visit a home-style restaurant so I loved hearing that Homecoming’s version was tasty.
Now if you are looking for a little sweet with your savory dish then you want to try Chef Art’s famous fried chicken and doughnuts. You get two pieces of Chef Art Smith’s famous fried chicken served with house-made sugar doughnuts and creamy mashed potatoes. This is the most ordered dish.
Another dish someone in the dining party had was the fried catfish. The fish is served with hushpuppies, fries, and a side of remoulade. The fish was moist and flavorful.
Have kids? Chef Art’s Homecoming has a great kids menu with options like chicken tenders, chicken sandwich, cheeseburger, or fish sticks served with a veggie and a starch.
If you looking for a sweet treat to end your meal, definitely try the Hummingbird Cake. Personally I was too stuffed from my meal. but I saw it coming out and it looked amazing! The other ladies, Nikki and Carrie from Favorite Grampy Travels can confirm that the cake is decadent! The famous pineapple-banana cake with cream cheese frosting from Chef Art’s bestselling cookbook “Back to the Table” is served with a seasonal fruit gastrique and a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream.
Chef Art’s is reasonable priced with most dishes coming in under $30. I think the value for the money is great, so much food!! I can’t wait to dine here again to try even more great dishes.
Have you been? What is your favorite bite?
